Smart Landscaping Can Prevent Many Of These Problems

Many homes across the U.S. experience problems with outside flooding. This happens when a heavy storm drops a lot of water on a property in a short amount of time. If the landscaping is not up to the challenge, water will collect and pool in particular locations, and it will drain in ways that are damaging to yards. If the water pools in areas near the home in San Ysidro, CA, the water can easily find a way into a residence though cracks in a foundation or other faulty structures. Smart landscaping can prevent many of these problems.

1. Swales or Depressions. These features of a landscape can be used to stop or reduce outside flooding. When done correctly, swales will channel water to areas of the property that need it and away from the residence. Rocks and certain deep-rooted plants can be used to augment these features.

2. Rain Gardens. These landscape features add beauty to a property and they provide a place for water to pool after a heavy rain storm. The water will then percolate back into the soil. Even a small rain garden will have benefits for a property.

3. Mulch. This is an inexpensive way to improve rain drainage on a property. Heavy mulch is best as it will stay in place better and absorb more water. There is often less maintenance with heavier varieties of mulch.

4. Rain Spouts. These can be used to divert water away from the home. A downspout diverter is effective in directing water to a suitable spot, and many of these products come in designs that enhance the overall look of a property.
Many solutions to outside flooding are fairly inexpensive and they have the added value of enhancing the value of a home. If water does come into a home, it is important to call for the services of a storm mitigation franchise. Experts will come to the property and work to restore any instances of water damage in a professional manner.
